Mangalore Bicycle Club celebrated their Fifth Anniversary by planting 50 saplings
Mangaluru: Members of the Mangalore Bicycle Club celebrated the fifth anniversary of the club founding day in a manner suitable to what they stand for—preserving the nature and conserving the environment—by planting 50 saplings of different varieties of trees and undertaking the responsibility of their growth. The “Vanamahotsava Celebrations” to mark the Club’s 5th anniversary was a grand success with 100 plus cyclists from the club participating.
The cyclists started the ride at 6.30 am in front of Mangaluru City Corporation, and rode to Prakash Offset Printers in Baikampady, and in their premises, they planted 50 saplings, which would bear fruits and a few with medicinal values. One plant each was taken by two members, who planted them along the boundary line of the premises. Prior to the planting of saplings, Vanamahotsava Celebration was inaugurated by Ln K.C. Prabhu, Past Governor of Lions Club-Mangaluru. Ln Prabhu spoke on the need of more of these kinds of initiatives in our city, while Dinesh Nayak, an Environmentalist with extensive knowledge on plants and trees spoke about why such initiatives are required for our ecosystem and human health. Fruit-bearing trees too were important for the conservation of environment as they were the ones sustaining the fauna in the environment, he added. The saplings were provided by the State Forest Department.
Speaking to Mangalorean.com, Ganesh Nayak, founder president of Mangalore Bicycle Club said, “We will plant saplings during the Anniversary month of every year . Also, we have decided to continue planting in the months of July and August every year. This will be a tradition that we will continue forever to inspire and create awareness on this for generations to come. An event with this kind of participation stands testimonial to the fact that all members of MBC stand united for greener and social causes.
