MbC members Improvise on Climbing Skills ‘Tour de Mountains’ in Kalasa

Kalasa is a holy temple-town and Taluk located in Chikkamagaluru district in Karnataka. Kalasa is home to the Kalaseshwara Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. Kalasa lies 92 Kilometres South-west of Chikkamagaluru and is located on the banks of the Bhadra River.

On June 23, members of Mangalore Bicycle Club planned to tour Kalasa with their bicycles to enjoy the beauty and witness the beautiful Mountains, waterfalls and the mystifying Bhadra river around. Accordingly on June 23, at 4:15 am all the members gathered near KPT where the ‘Tour De Mountains Season 1 of 2019’ was flagged off for the club’s first monsoon ride in Kalasa. There were twelve riders of MbC with 3 additional members joining as support crew to ensure smooth and successful riding experience for all the riders.

Tour de Mountains is a unique initiative of MbC which was launched in the year 2016. The objective of this initiative is to improvise on the climbing skills of the members and of course to have an experience of riding in the monsoon rains through the scenic places around.

The members of the club started from Mangalore at 4:30 am and reached Kalasa at 7:00 am. After breakfast the ride started from the very famous Kalaseshwara Temple at 7:30 am. The excitement and high energy levels of the riders to explore the new terrain of Kalasa kept them motivated throughout the 25 km stretch.

Breathtaking view from the Hanging bridge over Bhadra river was the highlight of the ride. Weather was pleasant and the last 3 km stretch was the icing on the cake, heavy showers cooled down the riders as they completed the ride. One of the stopover points was the Juice Joint called Hallimane which offered refreshing masala soda. All riders had their share of the refreshing drink before proceeding to the next point. After covering 25 km, the riders reassembled at the Kalasa town, where all got freshened and fuelled up with some snacks and headed back to Mangalore. The team reached Mangalore at around 4:00 pm.

Throughout the journey and ride, all members maintained their energy levels and thoroughly enjoyed the ride. At MbC it’s all about taking up new challenges every time and making it more memorable than the previous ones.
