MBC Pays Tribute to Brave Hearts of Pulwama Attack and member Raheem Teekay
Mangaluru: February 14, 2019, was a black Thursday for our nation due to the terror attack which took place at Pulwama district in Jammu and Kashmir, killing 40 of our CRPF personnel. On February 15th, we lost a member and mentor of our club Raheem Teekay Sir. 35 members of Mangalore Bicycle Club and Cycling Buddies along with family members of Teekay sir came together today, to pay tributes to our brave soldiers and our dear Teekay Sir”, said the Joint Secretary of Mangalore Bicycle Club, Dijaraj Nair during the condolence meet held at the Kadri War memorial here on February 17.
On February 17, at 6:30 am all the members of MBC along with Raheem Teekay’s family members assembled at the Kadri War Memorial and paid tribute by lighting the candles and flowers at the memorial. This is a small way of thanking the Soldiers of the Indian Armed Forces for giving up their lives to protect every citizen of this country. Dijaraj Nair also shared his message on the sacrifices that the Soldiers undergo to keep the nation secure and on the importance of giving them due respect.
MBC members had planned a short ride through the favorite cycling route of dear Teekay sir – from the War Memorial to Thannirbhavi and then Bengre. Teekay Sir was an entrepreneur, writer and a Poet and has been actively involved in MBC for the last 3 years being part of the core committee, be it ensuring the legal compliance of the club, smooth functioning and in the regular working of the club. He voluntarily became a mentor to all the members to ensure everything was within the purview of law and cycling is pursued by members for the betterment of the society. He was single-handedly instrumental in revoking the proposal by the centre to ban cyclists from main roads through the petition he launched on change.org.
Despite the recent loss in the family, Rahil and Hasib, sons of Teekay Sir along with his nephew Masood and couple of others joined the ride to keep their father and uncle’s passion in this sport alive. At Tannirbhavi beach the MBC members captured a few group photographs with Teekay sir’s bicycle.
“We have lost our family member, but he will live in our hearts forever and our club members will ensure his passion for cycling and his aim to use this sport for a brighter tomorrow will be our foremost priority ever”, said Teekay Raheem’s son.
