Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) All Set Acquire Land to Develop Road to District Court from K S Rao Road Side

Mangaluru: Nearly ten years after the inauguration of the district court complex in Mangaluru, the urban local body is mulling over developing a 12m-wide road to the multistorey court complex from the KS Rao Road end. The court complex, with more than 30 courtrooms located on a hill in the city, has a 12m-wide road from the KS Rao Road end. The public works department had taken up the widening of the road to the court complex nearly a year after the inauguration. However, another major entry point to the court complex from the KS Rao Road continues to be a narrow stretch, causing inconvenience to judges, advocates, clients, and the general public who use the road.

If you look at the present developed road that leads to the Court complex- the stretch of road starting from Bunts Hostel/PVS Junction towards the Court is wide, however, motorists misuse it by parking on both sides of the widened road. On the other hand, the stretch of road leading from K S Rao/Kodialbail Road towards the Court complex is still narrow, and during court hours, there is always traffic chaos. Also, this narrow road is treacherous, and many two-wheeler riders lose balance, fall and get hurt. The road is worn out dilapidated, and hazardous for motorists to travel on.

STRETCH OF WIDE ROAD FROM BUNTS HOSTEL ROAD TOWARDS COURT COMPLEX…

The Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has been requested to acquire the required land for the widening of KS Rao Road-Court Complex Road. Based on a letter written by corporator AC Vinayaraj, who is also an advocate, the MCC is mulling over the possibilities of widening the road. Vinayaraj said that the road from KS Rao Road to the district court complex may be developed by securing additional land by acquisition through transferable development rights (TDR).

“The road from KS Rao Road to the district court complex is a prominent access in the heart of the city. However, there are many multi-storied buildings and resident complexes by the side of the road. The narrow road has been causing inconvenience not only to motorists but also to pedestrians. Hence, the road may be developed by acquiring additional land required through TDR,” he said.

The urban local body discussed the proposal to acquire land for the widening of the road through TDR as per Section 14(b) of the KPTC Act 1961, he said. Mayor Sudheer Shetty Kannur said that a council meeting of the MCC held recently has sent the proposal to the standing committee on town planning for review.
