MCC Announces Ullal Srinivas Mallya Honorary Award to saxophonist Dr Kadri Gopalnath

Mangaluru: To mark the MCC day, Mayor Kavitha Sanil announced the names of the Ullal Srinivas Mallya Honorary Awards at a press meet held at the Mayor’s chamber, MCC premises here on December 5.

Addressing the mediapersons Mayor Kavitha Sanil said, “The Mangaluru City Corporation day will be celebrated on December 8 and the Ullal Srinivas Mallya Memorial Lifetime achievement award will be presented to Dr Kadri Gopalnath, Classical Saxophonist. In addition to the award, the city corporation will also honour three achievers who have made significant contributions in education, sports and arts, they are Agari Raghuram Rao (Yakshagana) K A Rohini (Education) and M R Poovamma (Sports). The Ullal Srinivas Mallya Memorial Lifetime achievement award will comprise of a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh and a citation. The award winners will receive a cash prize of Rs 50,000 each and a citation”.

Kavitha further said, “To select the achievers we had formed a selection committee headed by Prof B A Vivek Rai, N K Thingalaya, M Abdul Rahiman, Prof Rita Noronha and Manohar Prasad. The award ceremony will be held at 6:30 pm on December 8 at the Town Hall. On the same day, drawing competition will be held from 9:30 pm for students of primary and higher primary schools. The cultural programme will be held at 2:30 pm which will continue until 6:30 pm. At 6:30 pm Dharmadhikari of Dharmasthala Dr Veerendra Heggade will inaugurate the award ceremony and confer the awards on the achievers.”

The award ceremony will be followed by Sur Sangam orchestra. Mayor Kavitha Sanil will preside over the function. District Minister In-charge B Ramanath Rai, Minister U T Khader, MLA J R Lobo, MLA Moideen Bava, Chief Whip Ivan D’Souza, Capt Ganesh Karnik, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, Deputy Mayor Rajaneesh, DC Sasikanth Senthil will be the guests.

Deputy Mayor Rajaneesh, former Mayor Sashidhar Hegde MCC Commissioner Mohammed Nazir and Sabitha Misquith were also present.
