MCC Civic Group Catches Fishes in Potholes, Accuses Corporators of 20% Commision in all Works

Mangaluru: The MCC civic group and AAP staged a protest at the Kankanady Market on October 17 against the pathetic condition of the market and its surrounding area.

Addressing the protesters Social activist Gerald Towers said, “In olden days the Kankanady Market was neat and clean. Elderly people used to sit on the benches near the market and spend some time in the open air but now the market is in a dilapidated condition. Look at the present status of our beautiful Kankanady, we have unscientifically concreted roads with an elevation difference of the old and newly laid road surfaces, potholes filled bypass roads and the pathetic state of the Kankanady market yard. Who is responsible for this?”

Gerald further said, “The corrupt practices based on an unholy understanding of the elected representatives and the government officials have affected quality work in all government projects. Time has come to change the system. The MCC has appointed an engineer who does not have any idea of constructing the city roads. The corporators get 20 percent commission for every MCC project, they are least bothered to check the quality of the work in their respective wards. Because of the potholes on the roads, many have lost their lives. We pay the road tax but because of the potholes and the condition of the roads, it has become expensive to maintain our vehicles. Misusing taxpayers money is a criminal offence. In the coming days, if any incident takes place, I will file a criminal case against the concerned coroporator”.

Rajendra Kumar from AAP said, “The AAP governance in Delhi has revolutionized the education and healthcare system. People of Delhi are experiencing an honest corrupt free governance with transparency and accountability of public funds. If that can happen in Delhi why can’t it happen in Mangaluru? The moment elected representatives are transparent in the administration, automatically everything will fall into place and this can be achieved through ward committees. The participation of the public in ward committees and auditing of public funds will clean the present corrupt system by bringing transparency and accountability.”

Later the protesters held a paper boat competition for children began fishing in the potholes.
