Speaking to mediapersons, Chairperson of MCC’s Health Committee Kavitha Sanil said that on June 16, a press meet was called to inform the public through the media to renew their licenses or apply for new licenses by June 30 but there are still 8026 licenses that have not been renewed. After the meeting, only 416 people had renewed their licenses.

She further said, “Sometimes people say that the Health Department is raiding only poor people’s shops and penalizing them. So we have started with the City Centre so that people should not feel we are being partial. We have raided shops and we have shut down and penalized those who did not obtain the trade licenses.”

From June 16 to June 30, 416 trade licenses have been renewed and Rs 16 lakh has been collected. “If all the pending trade licenses are renewed, we will get funds for the development of the city,” she said.

She also said, “If we inform the health officers about a raid, the shop owners will come to know that there will be a raid and they will try to fool us. That is why this time we conducted the raid without informing the officials. Raids will be conducted every day till every shop owner has a trade license.”

MCC officials also seized plastic from a shop. Health inspector Manjayya, Environment engineer Madhu and 4 other health officers assisted in the raid.
