MCC Distributes Various Schemes to 1706 Beneficiaries

Mangaluru: Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) organised a programme to distribute various facilities to the disabled and the needy under the 24.10%, 7.25% and 3% funds at the Town Hall here on March 31.

The programme began with the State Anthem. The Deputy Commissioner (Administration) Gokuldas Nayak welcomed the gathering. The programme was inaugurated by district minister in-charge B Ramanath Rai by lighting the traditional lamp along with other dignitaries.

Speaking on this occasion, Minister Ramanath Rai said, “Under Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, the government has taken steps to identify and help the poor. Today’s programme is the best example of this, where the bigger part of the treasury is being used for the poor and the disabled. The disabled do not want our sympathy but they need empathy to lead a respectful life in the society. The MCC has identified the disabled and provided government facilities. Today 1706 beneficiaries have benefitted from various schemes. At this juncture I advice all the council members to work with unity and reach out to every needy person in the society. Our main mantra is the development of the city and not for our personal benefit. The elected members should give priority to the development of the MCC, if anyone takes this personal and stops working for the development of the city, people will not forgive them. I congratulate the Mangaluru city corporation for the good initiative in identifying all the deserved beneficiaries.”

Ramanath Rai urged the people to use the facilities wisely and asked them not to forget the leaders who were responsible for these facilities being given to them.

MLA J R Lobo said, “Every year the MCC is organising this programme and distributing various schemes to the beneficiaries. This year there are 1706 beneficiaries. When the congress is ruling in any state or district, they understand the problems of the people and help the needy. It is the duty of the elected members to identify the beneficiaries for various government schemes. In this regard, the MCC has done a wonderful work and identified the deserved beneficiaries for the scheme. I congratulate the Mayor and all the elected members and also advice them to be united for the development of the city.”

MLA Moideen Bava also spoke on the occasion. Around 1000 benefactors had attended the programme. The MCC distributed, rickshaws, medical equipment for the disabled, monetary relief for the poor and other facilities.

Mayor Kavitha Sanil, MCC Commissioner Mohammed Nazir, Sashidhar Hegde, Praveenchandra Alva, Sabitha Misquith, Appi and others were also present.
