MCC Mayor Election on 9 March- Women Corporators in the Race

Mangaluru: Since the tenure of present MCC Mayor Harinath ends on 11 March 2017, therefore elections for the next Mayor and Deputy Mayor will be held on 9 March at 9 am, under the supervision of Jayanthi- Senior IAS officer and Assistant Divisional Commissioner of Mysore, who has been assigned as the electoral officer. This time the post of Mayor has been reserved for women (General) and the post of Deputy Mayor has been reserved for Scheduled Caste community.

It is learnt that this time all the fourteen MCC women corporators are eligible for the post of mayor, but right now it seems like three corporators namely Appi, Kavitha Sanil, and new comer Prathiba Kulai are in the race for that post. Presently Kavitha Sanil and Appi are serving in the MCC as presidents of Health and Finance standing committees respectively. For the race of Deputy Mayor is Rajneesh, a corporator from Derebail ward.

In the meantime, Opposition BJP is yet to nominate its candidate for the post of Mayor even though they are less in numbers. At the same time, elections for the posts of presidents of standing committees too will be held on 9 March.
