MCC Observes World Environment Day, Distributes Health Insurance to Civic Workers
Mangaluru: The World Environment Day was observed by the Mangaluru City Corporation at the City Town Hall here on June 5.
Prior to the programme the Mayor of Mangaluru City Corporation Kavitha Sanil planted Saplings at the Nehru Maidan.
The programme began with an invocation. MCC Commissioner Mohammed Nazir welcomed the gathering. The programme was inaugurated by Mayor Kavitha Sanil by lighting the traditional lamp along with other dignitaries on the dais. Mayor Kavitha Sanil administered the Oath to the gathering. Stickers of Swacch Mangaluru were released by the Mayor.
Addressing the gathering Mayor Kavitha said, “Today we are observing the World Environment Day. This day should not be limited only for June 5, but observed every day. Today we have planted saplings to mark the World Environment Day. For the development of the city and the roads, we have felled many trees. So this year we are planting 1500 saplings in all the 60 wards of the city corporation. I have instructed the health officers to provide 25 saplings to each corporator and help them in planting them in their respective wards.”
Kavitha further said, “Today we have taken the oath to separate the wet and dry waste. People of Mangaluru should join hands with the MCC by separating the wet and dry waste before handing it over to the MCC waste collection vehicle which comes every day to their doorstep. To protect the environment, we need to keep our surroundings clean. We need to start the process of separating the wet and dry waste from our houses. Now we also need to think seriously about protecting the environment.”
Insurance policy of Rs 1 lakh and Health cards were distributed to the MCC Civic workers on the occasion.
Former Mayor Sashidhar Hegde also spoke on the occasion. Joint Director Gokuldas, CorporatorsSabitha Misquith, Naveen D’Souza, Nagaveni, Abdul Rauf, Shailaja and others were also present.
