MCC Office Building- Thursday 7 pm! No Staff, but Lights & Fans Still ON Wasting Taxpayers Money
Mangaluru: When in school our teachers taught us that we should switch off the lights and fans when not needed, and many of still follow what our dear teachers taught us. But it looks like certain people who work in government offices never went to school and therefore they don’t care wasting electricity unnecessary by leaving the lights and fans on, after office hours- and here in Mangaluru, we have one example where a few staff who are supposed to switch off the lights and fans after their duty hours, are not following it.
Not just the office lights in MCC building left on after evening hours, however, we all pay the price for global warming, and I’m constantly amazed to see many a time streetlights, parking lot lights, building floodlights etc. blazing away in the middle of a hot March day. A few days ago, I made the rather distressing observation that a few streetlights were on during noontime. A dutiful citizen that I am, I found out who was responsible for this and informed the concerned person in MCC, and within a few minutes someone was sent to switch off the lights.
When energy crisis is a big threat and unscheduled power cuts are the order of the day during the certain time of the year, and we see govt/city office building lights/fans on during non-office hours and even street lights can be seen burning during daytime in many parts of the city. It is the responsibility of the staff/official to switch off the lights and fans before he or she leaves the office for the day, and it is the duty of the officials in Corporation to ensure that all street lights and switches were maintained properly- and the person who turns on and turns off the street lights does his duty with responsibility and in time.
And this report is for the kind notice of the MCC Commissioner and MCC Mayor to see that their colleagues act as responsible citizens in saving energy and not wasting it on the expense of taxpayers money. In conclusion, Periodic checks are not happening. A huge amount of taxpayers’ money is getting wasted. Energy consumption is already high because of the use of fans and air conditioners in such offices, to beat the summer heat. It is the responsibility of the authorities to take steps to prevent waste of energy unnecessarily. Thank You!
Excellent move Alfie D’souza
After all it is a Govt office and runs with Tax payers money. So why would they bother. I wonder if they did same at their homes as well? Basic civil sense and civic responsibility should prevail among these govt office staff.
