Some shops did not have trade licenses while others did not bother to renew them. Catching sight of the MCC officials checking trade licenses in the premises, some shops owners closed their shops and disappeared from the place.

Speaking to mediapersons, Chairperson of MCC’s Health Committee Kavitha Sanil said that we had called for a press meet and informed the shop owners through the media to renew their licenses or apply for new by June 30 but there are still 7782 licenses that have not been renewed. We had recently conducted raids in City centre Mall on July 1, and some people have renewed their licenses. Today we have inspected and locked 8 shops for not obtaining the trade license. We will continue to inspect shops in the coming days and action will be taken against those violating the law.

She further said that through the renewal and new trade licenses we have collected Rs 21 lakh and from the property tax we have collected Rs 45 lakh. It is the duty of the Revenue department to collect the property tax but the Health committee has collected the amount. We need to develop the City but due to lack of funds we are unable to carry out some of the development work. She urged the people to pay the property tax as well as to renew the licenses. If anyone wants to start a business, they should apply for trade licenses and avoid illegal trading. If all the pending trade licenses are renewed, we will get some funds for the development of the city,” she said.

Health inspector Manjayya, Environment Engineer Madhu and other officers were also present.
