MCC’s Shoddy Work- Laying Concrete over Cables without Shifting Them?

MCC’s Shoddy Work- Laying Concrete over Cables (like Telephone, power supply, water supply lines and underground sewage lines)-without Shifting Them?

Mangaluru: Is there any project that you can think of, which the Mangaluru City Corporation has undertaken done the right way, the FIRST time? The answer will be probably NONE! And now added to that here is yet another project, call it a “Shoddy Work”, where MCC has taken up a road development work near St Agnes College-Bendore, where they are trying to concrete side of the road without shifting numerous utility cables etc.

Coming to know about this unplanned work, members of MCC Civic Group, along with Aam Admi Party (AAP) staged a protest and demanded that the work should be stopped unless all the cables including telephone lines, power supply lines, water supply lines, and underground utility lines are shifted. Presently the workers have been laying concrete over these cables without moving them.

Speaking to Team Mangalorean, Gerald Towers, an activist and an active MCC Civic Group member said, “It is really foolish on the part of the MCC to take up a work in such a manner. Who would put concrete over cables, even after you notice them? And if the work is completed with concrete in such a condition it would surely hamper the communication network, water supply etc after allowing traffic on the road. I urge the concerned engineers, including the Mayor to look into this situation, and carry on the work only after the utility lines are shifted”.

Also speaking to Team Mangalorean, a resident of Bendore who wanted to remain anonymous said, ” If you look at the work here, there is no proper planning done by the concerned authorities, engineers and contractors. There should be a system of planning a storm water drain and a utility line chamber while widening the road, which is not done in this ongoing work here. This area is surrounded by many educational institutions and due to this unplanned project it will create inconveniences to the school going students/children. Hence a legal action to fix this blunder is the only solution”.

But anyways, the civic group have decided to file a complaint in the Kadri police Station against MCC Commissioner and area 34 ward corporator sabitha Misquith over unscientific road widening works. In the meantime, the members of AAP who had supported this protest with the Civic Group informed Team Mangalorean that they would lodge a criminal case against MCC if it went ahead with the works in such a state. They also said that even though they had a made a call to MCCCommissioner Mohammed Nazeer to come immediately and check the ongoing condition of the work, but unfortunately he never showed up. How nice!

This way the contractors will always get their contracts. one will fill, other will open. We have seen this in such a big city like Mumbai. Electric guys will open the foot paths, municipal workers will put mud to cover the surface – without placing tiles. After few days Telephone team will dig and municipal workers will re-fill without placing tiles; then comes – water department … IN 2016 Amboli got new foot paths, well laid. by 2016 mid rainy season – all footpaths were broken open. This is how we function in INDIA. Sadly

May imaginary God bless this reporter, AAP members and many other good civilians for fighting MCC. Your help in exposing waste and abuse of tax money is highly admirable. On the other hand, our MCC officials and political parties including ruling Congress and opposition BJP are failing miserably. I think they are all involved in this corruption including the elected reps. Otherwise, how do you explain the absence of elected MLAs and MP when public funds are being wasted?
