‘Meaningless to draw conclusion based on rumours’

Mumbai, Jan 10 (IANS) After a police report that said the reason of the death of veteran actor Om Puri was “unknown”, film personality and host Annu Kapoor said it would be meaningless to draw a conclusion on the basis of rumours.

At the prayer meeting on Monday, the 60-year-old actor said, “There are some people in media who always create this kind of theory. I think our police are quite efficient to solve any high-profile tragic incident. They are doing their job and soon it will be clear to all. Until then, it will be meaningless to draw a conclusion on the basis of rumours.”

The Padma Shri awardee and National award-winning actor Om Puri died due to a heart attack on January 6.

The preliminary post-mortem report of the deceased actor stated the cause of death as “unknown”.

Based on this, the police registered an accidental death report and even interrogated Puri’s domestic help and driver.

However, Kapoor negated any chance of foul play and said, “We don’t have any doubt about his death in our mind. If somebody has they should convey.”

In 1991, Puri parted ways eight months after he married Annu Kapoor’s sister Seema Kapoor. Two years later, he got married to Nandita Puri and they have a son Ishaan.

“We are still in grief. My sister is suffering in pain from many years. Despite him (Om Puri) being so fragile physically, she looked after him. She never left him alone. She is sinking in grief. So we don’t have time to think about the theories,” Kapoor stated.

The Vicky Donor actor continued, “We are straightforward people and dedicated to the art and the country. We are not high profile people that politicians would pay a visit to us. But my sister is genuine and this is her biggest loss.”

“Currently my priority is to take care of my sister who has suffered the most in this incident. May god give her strength to bear the pain,” he said.
