Menaka Gandhi to inaugurate Sakhi One-stop centre on March 5 – Karandlaje

Udupi: Union Minister for Child and women empowerment Menaka Sanjay Gandhi will be inaugurating the Sakhi One-stop crisis management centre in Udupi on March 5 at 2:00 pm.

Addressing the media persons at the district BJP office Shobha Karandlaje said that the 24-hour Sakhi centre will function at Nittur. ‘Sakhi’ — is a one-stop centre for providing medical, legal and rehabilitation facilities for women subjected to any kind of violence. The Sakhi centre has been specially sanctioned to the district. Udupi will act as the centre of activities for all the districts in the state, she added.

On the same day, the new Passport Seva Kendra in Udupi district will also be inaugurated at Brahmavar at 2:30 pm. The new Passport Seva Kendra will be useful for the residents of the region who would like to go abroad for education or employment.

Speaking about BJP’s three-day-long Jan Suraksha Yatra Shobha said that the yatra will begin from two places. One will begin from Ankola in Uttara Kannada and will be flagged off by Union Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar. The other yatra will begin from Kushalanagar and will be led by Nalin Kumar Kateel and Mysuru-Kodagu MP Pratap Simha. The Yatra will be flagged off by Union minister D V Sadananda Gowda.

The yatra would enter Udupi district at Byndoor at 9 a.m. on March 5. A padayatra would be taken out from Byndoor to Uppunda where a public meeting would be held at 10 a.m. Another padayatra would be taken out from Sangam Circle to Shastri Circle in Kundapur, where a public meeting would be held at 1 p.m. on the same day.

In Udupi, the padayatra would begin from Ambagilu Junction on March 5 and pass through Kalsank and culminate at Kinnimulki where a public meeting would be held at 3 p.m. On March 6 the padayatra would begin from Katapady village at 9 a.m. and culminate at Kaup, where a public meeting would be held at noon.

The yatra is aimed at instilling a sense of peace and security among both the Hindu and Muslim communities. The yatra will also demand a ban on Popular Front of India (PFI) and Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), which are involved in the murder of various Hindu activists. The yatra will also demand to handover all the murder cases of Hindu activists to the NIA, she added.

The yatras will culminate at the Nehru Maidan in Mangaluru on March 6 evening where the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will address the gathering.

Coming down heavily on the state government, Karandlaje said that the government expected 3 ½ lakh crore investment at the Investors Meet. Sadly, the state has received only Rs 37,000 crore investments, she said.

The tourism sector in the state is also witnessing a severe debacle as the tourist numbers have decreased drastically owing to the unsafe environment in the state, she said.

Insecurity in life is being borne by all sections of the society, including bureaucrats who are attacked, killed and harmed for reasons unknown, she alleged.

Elaborating on the Ujjwal scheme, wherein after the survey done in 2011, BPL cardholders are given LPG cylinders and a stove, the parliamentarian said that as many as 11,177 families in Udupi and 11,460 families in Chikkamagalur are beneficiaries of the scheme till now. Another 22,000 in both Udupi and Chikkamagalur districts are targeted and will be given LGP sets shortly.

The Central government has sent Ujjwal Ratha to Udupi and Shivamogga districts to tour all over the villages, she said.
