Messi told me all about incoming coach Guardiola: Man City’s Aguero:
Manchester, May 18 (IANS) Manchester City star striker Sergio Aguero revealed that his Argentina team-mate Lionel Messi has told him exactly what to expect from incoming English football club’s head coach Pep Guardiola.
The outgoing Bayern Munich coach, who worked with Messi during his time in charge of Barcelona, is set to take over from Manuel Pellegrini as City coach this summer.
And the City striker has got the lowdown on his soon-to-be coach from his friend and international colleague.
“Leo has told me he is very impressive and other players with whom I have spoken have said the same. I don’t know him personally so we’ll see after Copa America what is going to happen. I will get to know him and he will push us all,” Aguero was quoted as saying by goal.com on Tuesday.
“I think he is a coach who will put a lot of pressure on the players and we need that. The arrival of him not just for me but for other players will be important for club. There is a reason that the club invests in important players and then a coach is very important.”
City secured a top-four spot with a 1-1 draw against Swansea City on Sunday but finished the campaign 15 points behind champions Leicester City.
They also reached the last four of the Champions League final but were easily defeated by Real Madrid over two legs.
Guardiola is expected to revamp the squad upon taking the helm this summer, with Aguero anticipating major changes.
“We knew we had a great team but not good enough to earn a win in the semi-finals. We played OK in the Champions League with exceptions like Kevin De Bruyne who scored that goal against PSG,” the 27-year-old said.
“But we didn’t earn the classification and we knew it was an important step to make it to the semi-finals to get an idea of what we will experience next year,” the former Atletico Madrid player added.
