MIA Customs Seize Rs 21.48 Lakh Worth Gold Concealed in Passenger’s Inner Garments
Mangaluru: Even though its not raining outside being the monsoon month of June, but it has been raining gold at Mangaluru International Airport all year long, whether it is Summer, Winter or Monsoons? And in spite of many passengers being caught red handed by the customs officials at the MIA, the gold smuggling doesn’t seems like ending. Every week or every other week, there are passengers coming from Gulf countries getting busted when they arrive at MIA. Many have tried different ways in smuggling gold, either gold stuffed inside electronic gadgets, in rectum, in form of powder or paste, etc etc.
And this time, the custom officials at the Mangaluru International Airport were successful in seizing foreign origin gold concealed in the inner garments worn by a passenger, who arrived from Dubai by Air India Express flight IX814 on Saturday, 8 June 2019. The 24 carat gold weighing 647 grams was in powder and paste form, valued at Rs 21.48 lakh. The arrested passenger was produced before the principal senior civil judge, and the customs officials are investigating further.
