MIA Officials Seize Gold Worth Rs 58.95 Lakhs from 2 Men in 2 Separate Incidents
Mangaluru : Seems like its raining gold at Mangaluru International Airport, where since the last few days the Customs officials at the Airport have busted quite a few smugglers trying to sneak in illegal gold, currency and cigarettes. In the latest incident, as per the statement released by Customs Commissioner, two men have been arrested by the customs officials in two separate incidents at the Mangalore International Airport last evening (Sunday, 16 February) for attempting to smuggle gold into the country valuing over Rs. 58.95 Lakhs.
In the first incident, Muhammed Swalih Chappathodi, 22, hailing from Malappuram, Kerala who arrived from Dubai by Spice jet flight SG060 concealed capsules containing gold in paste form inside his rectum which upon purification resulted in the recovery of 797 gms of 24 karat valued at Rs.32,35,820/-.
In another case of similar modus operandi, the customs official recovered 655gms of gold valued at Rs.26.59 lakhs from Mohammed Nishad Cheruvanassery, 25, who arrived from Dubai by Air India flight IX384.
The Customs officials comprising Superintendents Sreelakshmi, Gopinath, Savitha Kotian, Ramavtar Meena, and Inspector Samala Mohan Reddy, were instrumental in the detection and seizure of the gold concealed by the passengers. Both the accused were produced before the Additional Cheif Judicial Magistrate Court, Mangaluru.
