Migrant Labourers to get 8 Essential Items including 5 KG Rice – MLA Vedavyas
Mangaluru: “At present, there are 9 positive COVID-19 cases in the district. 30 persons are quarantined at the ESI and Wenlock hospitals, their throat SWAB has been sent for testing and we are waiting for the report. The government has taken all necessary measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19. In this connection, the district administration is distributing essential supplies to 815 migrant laborers who do not have BPL or APL cards. Nearly 815 migrant laborers will get essential supplies consisting of 8 items including 5 kg rice. We have already started distributing them with ration “, said MLA of South Constituency Vedavyas Kamath in a press meet held at Mangaluru City Corporation here on April 2.
Addressing the media persons MLA Vedavyas Kamath said, “From today nearly 2101 families of migrant laborers from other states who do not have APL or BPL cards will get ration. The Muzrai department through the Sri Manjunatha Temple, Kadri will provide food twice a day to 2475 people who do not have the facilities to cook their food. Food is also provided to about 700 people who are sheltered in government schools. Through Indira Canteen, food is provided twice a day to 413 people. MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, MLA and MCC members are distributing the Modi Kit to all the 38 wards in my constituency. 50 families in every ward will get this kit which contains 5 Kg boiled rice, 1-liter oil, 1 kg sugar, 1 kg Soji, 1 pack toothpaste, 1 soap, and Dal. We aim to distribute 10,000 such kits for the needy people in 38 wards.”
MLA Kamath further said, “37131 BPL cardholders will get 10 kg rice per member, 1268 Anthyodaya cardholders will get 70 kg rice for 2 months. 3058 APL Single cardholders will get 15 kg rice per month, 28055 APL cardholders with more than 2 members will get 10 kg rice per month for Rs 15 per kg. Door to door delivery of essential items will be supplied to those who have obtained passes”.
MLA Kamath also said, “The timings for the wholesale merchants to complete their work is from 11:00 pm to 4:00 am. Yesterday night when we visited the market the situation was horrible, the vendors were not maintaining social distance. The District administration is taking these issues very seriously. The district administration had talks with the wholesale merchants and the wholesale medicine merchants to provide sufficient supply to retailers. We have enough supplies, people should not panic but buy essentials items from nearby places.”
Mayor Diwakar, deputy Mayor Vedavathi, Kiran Kumar and others were also present.
