Milagres College Kallianpur celebrates Golden Jubilee

Udupi: The golden jubilee Celebrations of Milagres College and Milagres Pre-University College, Kallinapur were held at the college premises on Friday, January 13.

The programme began with an invocation by the college students. Fr Stany B Lobo correspondent of Milagres Institutions welcomed the gathering.

Dr Gerald Pinto principal of the degree college, Savitha Kumari principal of PU College and Helma Flaminia Picardo Secretary of the Students welfare council presented the annual reports respectively. Prof Archana K Dabde presented the golden jubilee report.

Pramod Madhwaraj district minister in-charge and also minister for youth Empowerment, Sports and Fisheries of Karnataka released the college newsletter ‘Voice of Milagres. Bishop Gerald Isaac Lobo released the Golden Jubilee souvenir.

All those who had helped the founder to establish the college, Past correspondents, Past Principals, Retired Staff (Teaching and administrative) Staff achievers and Students achievers were felicitated on the occasion.

Addressing the gathering Oscar Fernandes member of Rajyasabha said that “Every year thousands of students from different parts of India and even abroad come to Mangaluru and Udupi to seek higher education and these two districts have taken a lead in providing quality education to these students. The Coastal Districts have been a model to the world in the field of education. It is a matter of pride that at a time when Government Colleges were not in existence, Milagres College has filled the vacuum in providing higher education and celebrating the Golden Jubilee of its service in the field of education. Many colleges are being elevated to the status of universities and as such, we have to support these steps in the interest of providing quality education to the students.”

Pramod Madhwaraj district minister in-charge and also minister for youth Empowerment, Sports and Fisheries of Karnataka in his message said that Milagres College has brought about a revolution in the field of education. The college came into existence with the aim of providing an opportunity to avail higher education to children of rural areas specially the agricultural community. Milagres College has been rendering higher education to its students since the last fifty years. He further said that the Karnataka Government has been supportive of educational institutions and as such it has provided Rs 50 lakh to improve the road from Santekatte to Kallianpur and another Rs 17 lakh to renovate the connecting road to the college.

In his presidential message Bishop Gerald Isaac Lobo congratulated the college for attaining its Golden Day with ‘B’ Grade NAAC Accreditation. It is the great achievement of the college during the past 50 years and thanks to the Lord for His merciful blessings on the institution. The Bishop remembered, the visionary Founder, Monsignor D J D’Souza, the co- founder, Msgr William A Lewis, and all the founding members of the team for their far-sighted vision of a great future for the rural youth of Kallianpur and the neighbourhood. Extending gratitude to the successive Correspondents and principals who have left no stone unturned to make Milagres what it is today.

Further, the Bishop said that the most important persons on the campus are the Students, for whom the college exists. We are proud of our students who have excelled in various fields, bearing the stamp of Milagres upon themselves, and are shining all over the world in various positions of honour and making the flag of Milagres fly high in the sky.

Milagres not only informs the students but also forms them into persons of integrity and responsibility. As the great poet, Rabindranath Tagore, prayed, we also pray that may they walk with “minds without fear and heads held high” as global citizens and leaders, having imbibed sound moral and human values, and sensitivity to the needs of the poor and needy in our society. The education of the head and the heart imparted by Milagres, he added.

Milagres college created history with value based education to youth for half a century under the mantle of our lady of miracles.congratulations to the principal,staff and students for organizing a beautiful golden jubilee celebration.May Milagres shine bright in the years to come.

Why Oscar Fernandes and his wife on the stage? What is their contribution? We need to stop inviting people doing nothing to grace such occasions.
