Mind You, Filming Mishap Scenes Can Land You in Trouble

Mangaluru: It is a common scenario these days. Whenever a mishap occurs, people around stop over only to film it on their mobiles, instead of running to their rescue or taking the victims to a nearby hospital.

In view of an inbuilt impression that anyone admitting a victim to a hospital could face court and police formalities, the public hesitates to come to help whenever a mishap takes place. Instead, the first act on the part of bystanders is to film the scene on their mobiles.

In spite of supreme court judgements, awareness campaigns by the Union and state governments, the situation has not much improved. State minister of health and family welfare U T Khader told media persons here on Tuesday that his department was making it an offence to capture the accident scene.

On the other hand, anyone witnessing a mishap should first shift the victims to a nearby hospital, he said. The department had planned to honour such persons with ‘Jeevarakshaka’ award.

Under the recently introduced ‘Harish Santwana’ scheme, immediate facility to accident victims would be provided. No hospital could deny medical attention to any victim, he stressed.

He also urged the citizens to shift the victims to a hospital in the first place. Based on the gravity of the accident and need for medicines, the rates for treatment in different hospitals had been specified under categories of Rs 25,000, Rs 15,000 and Rs 5,000.

With a view to making the Harish Santwana scheme a success, every legislator should convene a meeting of officials under their respective jurisdiction and ensure proper implementation, said Khader.

A salute to do-gooders!
