Minister Dr Jayamala felicitates 40 Progressive Farmers on National Farmer’s Day in Udupi
Udupi: The National Farmer’s Day was observed to mark the birth anniversary of the former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charn Singh in Udupi District on Sunday, December 23. The programme was organized by the district administration at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Auditorium Rajathadri Manipal.
The programme began with the State Anthem followed by the Raitha Geethe. Dr Jayamala District Minister in-charge Udupi inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp.
40 progressive farmers were honoured with the Mysooru Peta, Shawl, Fruits, garland, memento and Cash Prize on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion minister Dr Jayamala said that the coalition government is committed to solving all the issues concerning them and they should not lose hopes for any reason. After globalization, the problems of farmers have increased. We should try to resolve the problems step by step. The Government has initiated various welfare programmes for the farmers’ and these programmes should reach each and every farmer. Farmers are the real saviours of the environment.
To support the farmers during the UPA government Prime minister Manmohan Singh had waived Rs 56,000 crores farmers’ loan. Thereafter in Karnataka former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah also waived the farmers’ loan and now the coalition government is making honest efforts to waive off the farmers’ loan. Farmers are the backbone of the country and the peoples’ representatives should take an oath to resolve the problems of the farmers, she said.
Udupi MLA Raghupathi Bhat presided over the programme. Deputy commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis, Additional DC Vidya Kumari, ZP CEO Sindhu Roopesh, ZP president Dinakar Babu, ZP members Janardhan Tonse, Sudhakar Shetty, Uday Kotian, Assistant Commissioner Kundapura T Bhoobalan, DFO Kundapur Prabhakaran and others were present.
After the inaugural function, the minister and other dignitaries held an interaction with the farmers and heard their grievances.
