Minister Eshwar Khandre launches various Development Projects at Kaup Town Municipality
Udupi: The third phase of the Nagarothana scheme for creating urban infrastructure and amenities in towns and cities will give priority to drinking water projects, said Minister of State for Municipal Administration Eshwar Khandre.
He was speaking after launching various development projects worth Rs 83.92 crores under the Kaup town municipality limits on Friday, March 9. The state government will roll out the third phase of Nagarothana scheme at a cost of Rs 2,856 crore which will be implemented across 264 urban local bodies.
The district headquarters towns, grade A towns, city municipal councils and town municipal councils, town panchayats, village panchayats upgraded to town panchayats, and newly created urban local bodies will get funds. Works will include drinking water supply, sewage, waste management, roads, drains, footpaths and traffic management.
The State government has taken many steps for the welfare of pourakarmikas. The State government has sent pourakarmikas on foreign tours, to study how developed countries kept their cities clean. The government has regularised their services with minimum wage.
The government has filled the existing vacancies in the state. The local bodies have to adopt the latest technology in managing solid waste and facilitating underground drainage system to prevent the spread of diseases due to unhygienic conditions. The government has given administrative powers to deputy commissioners to sanction up to Rs 5 crore for development works. The state government aims to make all cities and towns free from open defecation by October 2, 2018, the minister said.
Kaup MLA Vinay Kumar Sorake in his message said that in last four and half years of the Congress government the Kaup assembly constituency has received highest grants from various departments. Today we have launched various development works under the Kaup Town municipality limits. Recently the Kaup town municipality has achieved the best second town municipality in cleanliness. Today the minister has laid the foundation stone for the long pending demand of providing round-the-clock drinking water to Kaup city worth of Rs 57 crores. The minister also laid the foundation for G+3 apartments. Under the project 500 homeless families will get houses soon, he added.
Kaup Town Municipality president Malini, David D’Souza, Wilson Rodrigues, Deviprasad Shetty, Divakar Shetty, Prashanth Jathanna and others were present.
Yes, rightly said, for the last 4-1/2 years all development works and amenities promised when seated to govern, were not implemented and kept pending, and now to woe the people to vote for their governance one more time, they have all woken up – this strategy is an old game and it is high time the locals of KAUP realise it and seek a change to better their lives instead of having hope and dependence on these politicians, who only seek name, fame, and power!
