Udupi: Social Welfare Minister H Anjaneya said that he would stay overnight in Udupi district next month, listening to the grievances of the people from the SC and ST community.
He was speaking with the media persons on Saturday, April 16, after visiting Sri Krishna Temple Udupi, I have decided to spend a day every month with the tribal people. Our intention is that they join the mainstream and prosper as other communities do. The government has earmarked Rs 19,500 crore for the SC and ST welfare schemes last year. In the recent budget, the chief minister has allotted Rs 16000 crore for social welfare department.
To listen to the grievances of the SC/ST community I have stayed with them in Dakshina Kannada district, after talks with the Dalit leaders I have announced Rs 10 crore package for the overall development of the community.
The state is facing worse drought and every district is facing drinking water scarcity. Drinking water is being supplied through tankers to the villages in the State and there is a shortage of funds for providing water, he added.
Earlier the minister visited Sri Krishna Temple and received blessings of Sri Vishwesha Theertha Swamiji of Paryaya Pejawar Math.
Udupi MLA Pramod Madhwaraj, district social welfare department deputy director Premnath, District backward class development department officer Harish, Ramesh and others were present.
