Minister H C Mahadevappa inspects Permanent wall against Sea Erosion in Malpe
Udupi: The State minister for PWD, Port and Inland water service minister H C Mahadevappa on Tuesday March 7, visited the Malpe Port and inspected various development works.
The minister inspected the Malpe port, Jetty works and permanent wall protection against sea erosion in Malpe Beach.
Later speaking to the media persons Mahadevappa said that after taking the responsibility of Port and Inland water service I am visiting the costal line for the first time to inspect the ports. There are a total of 12 ports in the State, Mangaluru and Karwar ports are major ports. In 2011 the previous UPA government has sanctioned Rs 911 crores under the ADB scheme for the development of the Ports.The first phase work has been started in 2014, and the second phase work will be completed in 2020. Rs 350 crore has been allotted to the Udupi district.
The work for permanent walls against sea erosion is carried out under Sustainable Coastal Protection and Management Programme funded by the Asian Development Bank is under progress in the district. In the Udupi district 18 Km of work has been planned in Yeramal, Udyavar, Kodi-Bengre, Kodi-Kanyan and Maravanthe. A jetty of 8 meters has been completed and another proposal for a 15 meter jetty has been sent to the government, he added.
Fisheries department officials, congress leader Sathish Ameen Padukere, Keshav Kotian, Prashanth Poojary and others were present.
