Minister Khader inaugurates International Yoga Day in Mangaluru

Mangaluru: The district administration in association with Ayush Department observed the 4th  International Yoga day at the Mangala Indoor Stadium here on June 21.

The programme began with an invocation. Mohammed Iqbal from Ayush Department welcomed the gathering.

Minister for Housing and Urban Development U T Khader inaugurated the international Yoga day by lighting the traditional lamp along with other dignitaries.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister for Housing and Urban Development U T Khader said, “Yoga is a gift from Rishi Munis. It is an exercise to keep ourselves healthy and happy. It is helpful for health; those who practice Yoga every day will remain healthy. We need to create awareness among the people about Yoga.”

Khader further said, “We need to be tension free to lead a healthy life. We all have bad and good cells in our body. When we get good oxygen, our body cells will be healthy. If we don’t get proper oxygen, our cells will be unhealthy. Those who take deep breaths everyday will live longer. For the past four years, the district administration has been observing International Yoga day. We should all join hands with the district administration to create a healthy society.”

Addressing the participants, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel said, “Yoga is good for the development of the brain. Yoga has no religion. Prime minister Narendra Modi initiated the Yoga day four years ago. Today, 60 countries are observing International Yoga Day. Yoga is good for everyone to remain healthy. Nowadays, youth are attracted towards it. It is a positive way of life that teaches relaxation, positive thinking, truthfulness and healthy living. It can make us feel lively and energetic. In Mangaluru, the district administration along with the Ayush department has organized the International Yoga day in a systematic way. I urge all the other departments to join hands with the district administration to hold yoga programmes.”

MLA of South Constituency Vedavyas Kamath delivered the presidential address. ADC Vaishali, ZP CEO Dr M R Ravi, ZP President Meenakshi Shanthigodu, Yoga Guru Gopalakrishna Derlampady and others were also present.
