Minister Khader Plans to Constitute Autonomous Body for Overseeing Industrial Parks

Mangaluru: “We are planning to introduce an amendment to the 1976 Municipality Act. The amendment has to do with helping constitute an Industrial Township Authority across all the Industrial Parks of the state. The Industrial Township Authority will be an autonomous body and will be the authority figure for all the industries of that region. Previously, the local bodies used to collect taxes from the industries. However, under this amendment, the ITA will collect taxes and directly address all the concerns of the industries located in that region. They will divert 30 percent of collected taxes to the city corporation and the rest 70 percent of taxes will be retained by them. This revenue will be used to solve the problems of all the local industries”, said Minister for Housing and Urban Development UT Khader in a press meet held at the Minister’s DC Office, Statebank here, on June 10.

Addressing the mediapersons Khader said, “The Industrial Township Authority will comprise eight members. Out of eight members, five of them will be independent members nominated by the government; one member will be the Industrial and Commerce Secretary, one member from the city corporation, and another member chosen by the state government. These eight members will have the authority. Today evening, there is a meeting with all the district officials as well as state minister KJ George. We will be introducing the amendment at the assembly monsoon session. There is no need for an ordinance as it is not an emergency.”

Khader also said, “Regarding the flyover deadline, I had a meeting with the district MP and the reason the deadline had to be extended was because two of our officials were suddenly transferred. Recently, one of our Gram Panchayat Members was attacked by assailants in Malpe harbor. The Udupi District Police and Dakshina Kannada Police have caught the culprits in a remarkably short time. They did it without any significant clues and I would like to congratulate them on a job well done.”
