Minister Laxmi Hebbalkar Visits Rain, Flood Affected and Sea Erosion Areas in Udupi District
Udupi: The district administration is working 24 hours a day to prevent any Rain-related calamity, said Lakshmi Hebbalkar, minister of women and child development department and in-charge minister of Udupi district.
She was speaking to media persons on Sunday, July 21 after visiting various rain-affected areas of the district along with authorities on Sunday and received information about the losses.
The minister said, “The Assembly session is going on. I am in constant contact with the district administration regarding the rain situation. Even though Sunday is a holiday I have come to the district to check the problems faced by the people due to the heavy rains”.
“I am always available whenever there is a need. The District administration and the government are working 24 hours a day. There should be no trouble anywhere. we have taken precautions so that there is no loss of anyone’s life”.
The minister also said, “I had held a district-level precautionary meeting 25 days ago and suggested cutting down the dangerous trees that were about to fall. Thus 500 to 600 trees have been cleared by the forest department. I instructed Mescom to clear the wires near the schools and that has also been done. There was a problem with drainage in the city, which was cleared. We have made sure that there is no problem with footbridges. A helpline has been opened by the district administration. I have made it clear that there should be no discrimination in issuing compensation related to rain damage”, she said.
Deputy Commissioner Dr K Vidya Kumari, Superintendent of Police Dr K Arun, Zilla Panchayat CEO Pratheek Bayal, Assistant Commissioner Kundapura S R Rashmi, DFO Ganapathi, and others were present.
