Minister Madhwaraj Visits Windstorm Affected Areas

Udupi: “The Minister for Revenue will be consulted for releasing additional financial relief to the victims who have lost their houses due to the windstorm that affected 191 houses in Perdoor and Bommarbettu area,” said Pramod Madhwaraj, Minister for Fisheries, Sports and Youth Affairs. He was speaking after visiting the victims who lost their houses due to the windstorm on July 1 in Bellarpady, Perdur-Padiyar, Puttige and Gundyadka here, on July 7.

Former Minister and Kaup constituency MLA Vinay Kumar Sorake visited the victims and released Rs 10 lakh as a temporary relief to the victims. Additional financial relief of Rs 36 lakh will be distributed to the victims on July 10. For the victims of the 54 houses which were totally damaged, new houses built under the Basava Housing Scheme will be provided. Two temples have been damaged in Bellarpady and Bommarbettu and necessary financial assistance will be provided after consulting with the Muzrai department, said Madhwaraj.

Arjun, a one and a half month old baby, was hurt during the windstorm and is being provided with necessary medical care in the Wenlock hospital, Mangaluru. The child has been treated for sub-dermal hemorrhage. The Minister said that he has consulted the doctors and has directed them to provide the best medical care. A house belonging to a fisherman was damaged and necessary assistance would be given from the Fisheries Department, he added.

Madhwaraj also said that the government of Karnataka has released Rs 5 crore under SFC to Udupi Municipality. Rs 2 crore will be utilized for the construction of bridges, which include an additional grant of 50 lakh for Malpe-Padukere Bridge, Kalsankha bridge extension and others. Rs 3 crore will be utilized for the construction of a permanent sidewall in Malpe beach area to prevent sea erosion. He also said that 354 seats of the 565 vacant seats have been filled under RTE. Officials were ordered to fill the remaining 211 vacant seats. He also said that he along with MLA Gopal Poojary will meet the Chief Minister for the release of financial relief to the families of the victims of Trasi accident. The deputy commissioner will be submitting a report on areas in the district affected by sea erosion and the same will be submitted to the PWD minister for initiating further action.

The Minister visited the windstorm affected areas along with in-charge Deputy Commissioner and ZP CEO Priyanka Mary Francis and Udupi Taluk Tahsildar Guruprasad.

ZP members Chandrika Ranjan Kelkar, Sudhakar Shetty, TP Member Lakshminaryan Prabhu, Malathi Acharya, Boja Nayak, Suresh Nayak and others were present.
