Minister Pramod Inaugurates Dist-level Koraga Sports meet
Udupi: The government has introduced special initiatives in promoting sports in the district, every effort will be made to promote Udupi district as the sports capital of the state said, Minister for Sports, Youth Affairs, Fisheries and Minister in-charge District Pramod Madhwaraj. He was speaking after inaugurating the sports organized for the Koraga community at the District Stadium, Ajjarkad here on May 26.
Rupees 1 crore has been allocated for the women sports academy, air-conditioning for indoor stadium and roofing. The government has also allocated rupees 1 crore for gymnasium and 1.5 crores for the sports academy.
The sports organized for the Koraga community will help the youth to grow inpar with the youth of other communities. A policy will be formulated for their development.
Koraga community leader Ganesh Kundapur in his introductory note said that, programmes promoting culture and views should be supported effectively.
A swimming pool of international standard measuring 50×25 will be constructed in Nejar, a proposal has been sent to the central government for rupees 8 crores. A lawn tennis stadium will be built, rupees 3.15 cores is reserved for the project.
Deputy Commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis, ZP President Dinker Babu, TP President Nalini Pradeep Rao, CMC President Meenakshi Madhav Bannaje, Vice President Sandhya Tilak Raj, Athletic Association President Dinesh Puthran, Sports AD Roshan Kumar and others were president.
