Minister Pramod Madhwaraj visits Kuthpadi-Padukere Sea Erosion Area

Udupi: The District Minister In-charge Pramod Madhwaraj, visited the Kuthpadi-Padukere sea shore, where property and road has been damaged due to sea erosion on June 29.

With the onset of monsoon, a number of properties including the Malpe-Padukere-Udyavar connecting road have been damaged. The house of Nathu Suvarna has partially damaged. Similarly, coconut trees are uprooted, residents of Padukere, Kuthpadi and Udyavar areas live in fear. Though boulders have put to create a sea wall on the entire stretch rough waves have washed away coconut trees and other trees.

Speaking to media persons Pramod Madhwaraj said, “Usually sea erosion occurs every year in Udyavar – Kanakoda area. For the first time there is sea erosion in Kutpadi-Padukere. The Malpe-Padukere-Udyavar connecting road has been partially damaged. The locals had informed me through phone and I have instructed the deputy commissioner to place more boulders as a temporary solution. Already 150 loads of boulders have been placed in the 120 meter stretch of the affected area. Our engineers are working day and night to protect the road which is nearby the river. If the river and the sea connect there will be a danger to the residents of these areas. We need to protect the road, property and most importantly the lives of the people.”

The Minister further said, “Due to sea erosion a house belonging to Nathu Suvarna has been damaged. I have instructed the Tahsildar to estimate the loss and provide compensation under the Basava Vasathi Yojana. With special interest of the former District Minister In-charge Vinay Kumar Sorake, Under the Asian Development Bank (ADB) Rs 92 crore loan has been approved to find a permanent solution for sea-erosion”.
