Minister Rai assures to Provide Housing Sites for Transgenders
Mangaluru: The District Minister In-charge held a discussion with the NGO’s regarding providing land for the transgenders in Mangaluru Hobali, at the DC office here on June 24.
Addressing the gathering DC Dr Jagadeesha said, “The Parivarthan Charitable Trust had applied for house sites for the Transgenders. The trustee along with the members have visited the site and have shown their interest in the site they had visited. According to the availability of government land, we will reserve it for them. Selection of the land will be made transparently. We will follow the government procedure and provide the land. Once the land selection is over we will finalize it. We have identified 40 acres of land in three hobalies. If the land is far from the main road we will provide bus facilities. The government will provide Rs 3.3 lakh to construct houses, we will seek help from CSR funds of various companies.”
Speaking on the occasion District Minister In-charge Ramanath Rai said, “Transgenders have requested government land to construct houses. They are the most vulnerable community and we need to support them. Wherever land is available the government will provide them, Government will also provide Rs 3.3 lakh to construct houses. Now the transgenders should decide whether they need to construct independent house or apartments where they can have a community hall etc for their benefit”.
ADC Kumar, Revenue Inspectors, Women and Child Development officers were also present.
