Minister Rai Hoists Monumental 100 ft High National Flag at MIA

Mangaluru: The hoisting of the Monumental National Flag was organized by the Airports Authority of India, Mangaluru International Airport, held at the New International Terminal, Mangaluru International Airport here on October 28.

The district minister in-charge Ramanath Rai hoisted the Monumental National flag on a 100 ft. flag mast. The CISF has given the guard of Honour and Salute to the National flag.

Addressing the gathering Ramanath Rai said, “The Monumental Flag has the approval of the Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of Civil Aviation and being hoisted in all Airports as a landmark for National Integration and Patriotism in their regions. Accordingly, the National flag has been hoisted in Mangaluru International airport. Various development works have been carried out in the airport. Since the airport is in a hilly area the flag will be visible to the people of Mangaluru. I am very happy that we have hoisted a National flag which will fly 24X7 in the airport”.

He further said, “Many people have sacrificed their lives during the freedom struggle. We should remember their sacrifice for the country and respect them. They have not sacrificed their lives to come to power, they sacrificed their life for our freedom. Let us work for harmony and unity in our country”.

MP Nalin Kumar Kateel said, “In the history of Mangaluru, we need to write this day in golden letters as we have hoisted a Monumental National Flag in the Airport. He congratulated the government for giving the opportunity to have the Monumental National Flag here. When I visited Delhi, after seeing the huge flags there, I was thinking to have one in Mangaluru and today it has been fulfilled. The National Flag is a symbol of patriotism and represents the country. A country is identified by its flag. The National flag gives us the inspiration. Let this flag inspire the people of Mangaluru.”

Airport Director, J T Radhakrishna, speaking on the occasion said, “This is a monumental national flag, being hoisted in 20 international airports in India and Mangaluru is one among them. The pole height is 100 ft and the flag size is 30 X 20 ft. This Flag has been hoisted according to the guidelines of the ministry of home and ministry of civil aviation. We will not lower the flag like other flags and the flag will fly 24 X 7 throughout the year. To endorse national integration and patriotism among the people of the region we have hoisted the monumental national flag in this airport. The Airport is growing with 15% increase of passengers compared to last year. Last year 16 lakh passengers traveled from this airport and this year it will reach 20 lakh. The total cost of the monumental national flag is Rs 13 lakh”.

J T Radhakrishna, Airport Director, Welcomed the gathering. Shivanna delivered the vote of thanks.
