Minister Rai Inaugurates 5 Development Projects in City

Mangaluru: District minister in-charge Ramanath Rai inaugurated 5 development projects in the city here on July 24.

Minister Rai laid the foundation stone for the dining hall at the Town Hall premises and also unveiled the plaque. Later the minister proceeded to Kasaba Bazar Bunder, and inaugurated the night shelter “Snehi Vasati”. Foundation stones were laid for Alake Market, Kavoor Market, Kavoor Circle development and public toilets near Kavoor Junction.

Addressing the mediapersons Ramanath Rai said that the night shelter “Snehi Vasati has been constructed at Bunder – Kasaba Bazar for the homeless. The ground floor which is measuring 504.25 sq mt can accommodate 75 people. From today onwards it will be open for the homeless to spend the night. The first floor will be constructed soon and will have the capacity to accommodate 105 people.

Later a press meet was held at the circuit house. Addressing the mediapersons MLA J R Lobo said that minister Rai has already laid the foundation stone for a dining hall for the renovated Town Hall. The total cost of the project is Rs 99.85 lakh and the funds have been sanctioned under the 13 financial project.

Foundation stone was also laid for the fully equipped market at Alake at a cost of Rs 1 crore. Rs 50 lakh will be provided during the first phase and the remaining amount will be sanctioned later during the second phase of the project.

Lobo further said that the priority will be given to the construction of the Kavoor Market at a total cost of Rs 1 crore and the work will be completed in two phases. Kavoor Junction will be developed at a cost of Rs 1.5 crore. Public toilets will be constructed near Kavoor Junction at a cost of Rs 12 lakh.

MLA Moideen Bava, Chief Whip Ivan D’Souza, Mayor Harinath, MUDA Chairman Ibrahim Kodijal, MCC Commissioner Mohammed Nazir, Sashidhar Hegde, Lancelot Pinto and others were also present.
