Minister Ramanath Rai Inaugurates ACSU, Mounish and Lloyd Elected Presidents
Mangaluru: The inaugural function of All College Students Union (ACSU) was held at the City Town Hall here, on September 9.
The programme began with an invocation. District Youth Congress President Mithun Rai welcomed the gathering. The programme was inaugurated by the District Minister In-charge B Ramanath Rai by lighting the traditional lamp along with other dignitaries on the dais.
Minister Ramanath Rai and MLA Lobo felicitated Nicky Pinto, the founder of Mangalore’s ‘Nostalgia’ dance troupe who Contested in Dance Plus3 Reality Show and Sandalwood actress from Coorg Nidhi Kushalappa on the occasion.
Addressing the students, Ramanath Rai said, “Student’s life is wonderful and student’s unions are breeding centres for leaders. Youth should be involved in various curricular and extra-curricular activities. We remember Gandhiji as a freedom fighter and father of the nation but we should know that when Gandhiji was a student in South Africa, he started his movement. To set our country free from British people from all walks of life have sacrificed their life. Because of their sacrifice, India got independence. We all know that the future of the country is in the hands of students. If you want to take this country towards greater heights you have to take a decision and work for the development of the country. If students are united the country will become politically, economically and socially strong.”
Ramanath Rai further said, “Our country has unity in diversity, There is no other country like India which has a rich culture and heritage. Our thoughts should be secular and we have to live in unity and brotherhood. Some anti-social elements are trying to create communal violence in the name of religion. We proudly say that we are a city of ‘intellectual’s’, but the happenings in our city do not speak of acts that are done by intellectuals. It is sad to see fights and enmity within colleges in the name of religion. Students should not be used to spread communal fights rather they should be taught to love all and work together without discriminating between religion, caste and creed. Communal violence will divide the country and we dont’ want to make our country another Lebanon, Rwanda, Syria, Afghan or Bosnia. Students should instill the moral values in them and work to build a strong and safe nation.”
Addressing the students MLA J R Lobo said, “Students should increase their leadership qualities. To be the best leader, one should be master in a particular subject. Former president APJ Abdul Kalam was expert in his field thus he become the president of our country. For students there are ample opportunities to grow but you have to decide which direction to go. To be the best leader you have to earn name and fame by excelling in particular field. In 1947 before the independence our country had nothing but now we have succeeded in all the fields. In 2030 India will emerge as number one country in the world. Student life is an important aspect in one’s life and should be cherished by all. Do not neglect your education, along with your education involve yourself in social activitieis and be the masters.”
MLA Moideen Bava and S P Dinesh also spoke on the occasion. Nidhi Kushalappa administered the oath to the new members of ACSU. Suhan Alva compered the programme. District Congress President Harish Kumar, deputy mayor Rajaneesh, former Mayors Sashidhar Hegde and Harinath, Suhail Kandak, Vinayraj, Ashok D K, Bhaskar Moily, Vishwas Amin and others were also present.
