Minister Rai Inaugurates E-Waste Management Unit
Mangaluru: The E-Waste Management Unit was inaugurated at the MCC Premises here on August 26.
The district minister in-charge B Ramanath Rai inaugurated the unit by cutting the ribbon.
The programme began with an invocation. The Environment Officer, KSPCB Rajashekar Puranik, welcomed the gathering and delivered the keynote address. The E-waste management workshop was inaugurated by Ramanath Rai by lighting the traditional lamp along with other dignitaries.
Addressing the gathering, Ramanath Rai said that E-waste management is very much important and is the need of the hour. We talk about climate change and this is not limited to our district, state, country but it is global and we need to discuss the issue globally. The future days will be very difficult because of the climate change. We need to give importance to the climate and bring awareness among the people. If we eat and throw the waste outside, it will create problems for us. Whatever the waste we need to think of recycling it.
He further said we have only one earth and we humans should take care of it. If we use the Earth for our greed, one day we will face severe problems. We need to plant saplings which will help to mitigate against the climate change. We need to understand the pros and cons of electronic gadgets. It is the duty of every citizen to understand the advantages and disadvantages of electronic gadgets.
Chief Whip Ivan D’Souza said that after Ramanath became the Forest minister, he has shown special interest in tackling climate change. He is encouraging people to plant saplings. Planting saplings or trees is the need of the hour. We need to control the pollution so that there we will have good rains. Nowadays the amount of rain has decreased and climate has become warmer, we sometimes feel like living in the desert. There is also no proper rain. The cost of cloudbusting for each district will cost around Rs 90 crore. In waste management, DK is in 7th place in the country, we need to move to the first place in E-waste management. Let the Pollution control board work on bringing the district to the number one position.
MLA Moideen Bava also spoke on the occasion. Mayor Harinath. Kavitha Sanil, K N Lokesh, MCC Commissioner Mohammed Nazir and Rajmohan were also present.
I’m very proud of all the ribbon-cutting ceremonies and talks about ‘waste management’ when the real city streets are filled with waste uncollected!! After all, photo sessions matter more than anything else.
