Minister Ramanath Rai Inaugurates Mangaluru Wine Festival

Mangaluru: The three-day ‘Mangaluru Wine Fest-2016’ organised by the Department of Horticulture and Karnataka Wine Board Bengaluru was inaugurated at the Kadri Park here on November 26.

The district minister in-charge Ramanath Rai, inaugurated the wine festival by lighting the traditional lamp along with other dignitaries on the dais.

Addressing the gathering Ramanath Rai said, “Today I have inaugurated the first ever Wine festival at the Kadri Park. According to the survey, after Bengaluru, Mangaluru is the second highest wine consuming city in the state. Grape wine is good for health and everyday consumption before food has proved to be very beneficial to health”.

Chief whip Ivan D’Souza speaking on the occasion said that the government has established the wine board to support the wineries. Consuming wine is good for health, people think that if you consume wine, it will affect your health. But when you consume anything within the limit it is good for health. This wine festival will surely create awareness about grape cultivation, and will support the farmers by providing exposure to Karnataka wineries at the state and national level.”

Ivan congratulated the organisers for taking the initiative to hold the “Wine festival” in Mangaluru and wished success for the programme.

There were more than 40 varieties of White, red and Sparkling Wine for sale at discounted rates. The festival will end on November 28.

Chairman of Karnataka Wine board Ravindra Shankar Mirje, Managing Director, Karnataka Wine Board, T Somu, Director of Horticulture, Z P Mangaluru, Yogesh H R and others were also present.

Wineries in South India will bring new awakening in Mangalore about the potential benefits to the Society as well as the Economy. Wines production in different tastes and qualities will bring better health environment amongst people.
