Minority Congress Demands Rs 25 Lakh Compensation to Families of Jalil and Nausheen
Mangaluru: “We the DK Congress Minority Cell condemn the police firing on the protesters resulting in the death of Jalil and Nausheen and injuring several others on December 19. The protesters had gathered near the DC office to protest against the NRC and Citizenship Amendment Bill. But the police resorted to lathi charge which incited the youth to get to the streets and pelt stones. A Judicial inquiry should be done in this case and the government should provide a compensation of Rs 25 lakh to the families of Jalil and Nausheen”, said the president of DK district Congress Minority Cell N S Kareem in a press meet held at Hotel Ocean Pearl here on December 23.
Addressing the mediapersons N S Kareem said, “In the entire state section 144 was in place and various organisations had protested peacefully. But in Mangaluru the police resorted to lathi charge which aggravated the situation. Later the police fired at the protesters which resulted in the death of two persons and injuring several others. But the BJP leaders blame U T Khader for the violence. U T Khader during the protest speech had said that people all over the county are protesting against the NRC, Assam and several other states are burning. If this Bill is implemented in our state, Karnataka will also burn. After two persons were killed and several others injured in the police firing, BJP MLAs did not visit the deceased families nor the hospital. But U T Khader, Mithun Rai, Ivan D’Souza and Harish Kumar have done their duty visiting the families of the deceased and consoling them, they also visited the injured in the hospital. “
