Miscreants poison 10 Dogs in Manipal; Animal Rights Litigator Files Complaint
Udupi: Senior Animal Rights litigator Babita Raj has filed a complaint in Manipal Police station and demanded the arrest of miscreants who allegedly poisoned 10 stray dogs in Mandavi Emerald, Manipal.
In the complaint, she stated that she had received a call from two students that, on 22nd June a man came in a two-wheeler at 9.30 pm outside Madavi Emerald, Manipal and fed poisoned fish to the dogs, killing 8 of them in a slow miserable, painful death. Again, on 24th June, two bodies were found of an adult dog and a puppy outside Mandavi Sovereign at 4.30 pm, again the death was caused by suspected poison. The bodies of died dogs were taken away by the municipality on the following days.
Most of these dogs were sterilized by the local NGO, fostered by students and were peaceful and gentle community dogs who were of no threat to anyone.
On inquiry of CCTV footage in Mandavi Emerald, they were informed that since a week they have disconnected the CCTV connection. Repeated inquiry with security hasn’t yielded any information.
There is a violation of sections Sec 11 of prevention of cruelty to animal’s act 1960 and under sections 428, 429 of Indian Penal Code 1860 and sec 93 of Karnataka Police act among others.
She appealed to the police department to file an FIR under the sections mentioned in this complaint and to conduct a detailed investigation including CCTV footage and other records to identify the culprit killers.
