Miscreants Vandalize Statue of St Antony at Shirva
Udupi: The statue of St Antony was vandalized by miscreants at Our Lady of Good Health church, Shirva here on December 11 afternoon.
A few parishioners noticed the vandalized statue on Sunday at about 3.30pm and informed the Shirva parish priest Fr Stany Tauro. The incident was reported to the Shirva police who arrived at the spot. The canine squad was also brought to the spot for further investigation.
Shirva parish council vice president Wilson D’Souza, assistant parish priest Fr Canute Noronha and a large numbers of parishioners gathered at the spot.
Shirva sub-inspector B Laxman and circle inspector Halamurthy Rao also visited the spot for investigations.
Speaking to mangalorean.com Fr Clunute said, “It is suspected that two youth came in the afternoon to the church premises and shifted the Statue of St Antony to the other place. Why they have done it is not known. We have informed the police and the canine squad also reached the spot for investigation”.
