Mangaluru: Prof SSS Shameem of Manipal International University, Malaysia had gone on a mission cycling nearly 2000 km in 14 days covering the entire of Peninsula of Malaysia. The mission was yet another edition for the mega projects on Social Welfare by Manipal & Rotary. Rotary Kasih ManipalCycling Campaign, which is a fund-raising cycling campaign to cover entire of Peninsula Malaysia; i.e. 2,000 km in 14 days. Rotary International clubs from Malaysia (3300 / 3310), and India (3182) had joined hands together to support MIU in this venture.
“The mission serves as awareness campaign to support Rotary Kasih project: a Student Life Transformation Program. There can be no better cause than helping one needy child to be an educated gentleman of future. So, I had aimed to REPEAT my earlier successful attempts of solo cycling to cover the Entire of Mainland Malaysia, which commenced on 27 July 2019. The Rotary Kasih Manipal (RKM) cycling campaign-2019 focused on spreading awareness about Rotary Kasih program, and help raise fund for this” said Shameem through a email message to Team Mangalorean.
Through this event veteran cyclist Shameem had aimed to connect the community and the nation going inline to Rotary’s Theme for 2019 “Rotary Connects the World”. SSS Shameem who was a Assistant Professor of Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT), Manipal University, moved to Malaysia nearly two years ago, and presently he is a Assistant Prof., Dept. of Computer Engineering, School of Science & Engineering at Manipal International University, Nilai, Malaysia. Shameem loves cycling, and he is not just a recreational cyclist, rather a seasoned professional with loads of experience. He is a regular endurance athlete, with a vast experience of many Half-Marathons, Full-Marathons, 200/300/400 Km Cycling brevets; apart from regular rigorous training sessions.
Earlier he has attempted Solo Cycling journey from Kanyakumari to Kashmir, i.e.3,500 Kms in 23 days during Summer-2016; and also one Manipal University Campus Connect “Tour-de-Manipal” (Team cycling event) Manipal to Jaipur 2,500 km in 20 days during Winter-2016. This is apart from many other cycling events organized by different organizing bodies all across India, in past 4 years. To add more feathers to the cap, he planned for yet another attempt Okha (Gujarat) to Dibrugarh (Assam) Solo Cycling expedition, i.e. 3,400 km; and he decided to complete it in just 20 days during this Summer-2017. This was not for any record purpose, but to spread the message of Unity-&-Humanity in a Greener-&-Healthier way. These are just a few of his adventurous cycling feat .
In another message Shameem has said, “Greetings from Manipal International University, Malaysia. Wishing everything to be safe at your home and office during these tough times at India with flood. I offer hearty thankfulness to Team Mangalorean, for your earlier support and wishes that helped us to successfully accomplish the Cycling campaigns in India and Malaysia over the last few years, under Manipal University & Rotary club. Recently, we successfully completed another edition for these mega projects on Social welfare by Manipal & Rotary, during July-Aug 2019”.
“Rotary Kasih Manipal Cycling Campaign, is a fund-raising cycling campaign to cover entire of Peninsula Malaysia; i.e. 2,000 km in 14 days. Rotary International clubs from Malaysia (3300 / 3310), and India (3182) joined hands together to support MIU in this venture. We could generate greater social awareness during our visits to various cities, schools and colleges; and also raised good fund which was donated by Manipal International University to Rotary International for social welfare and charitable causes. A total sum of Rs 4,00,000 has already been generated, and we expect it to further raise to INR 5,00,000 in coming few days. Our efforts have received great response from English, Malay, and Chinese newspapers in Malaysia, and in India as well (Kannada, English)” says Shameem. .
By attempting such ‘crazy’ feats, Shameem just wants to prove that, “Nothing is impossible, if there is a will, and passion”. If one can do, then anybody else can; all that’s needed is a courage to attempt, with proper preparation and right planning. Also, he is trying to promote the message of “Live and Let Live”, in this current highly chaotic society. He backs the cause of “Being Human; the Human that God-Almighty created”, which he himself tries to follow to possible limit. He believes, “It’s okay, if you can’t make someone laugh; but don’t make one cry. Don’t be the REASON of PAIN to anybody.”
Proud-parents Sk. Habibun Bibi and Sk. Anwar Hossain are always his role-model and source of inspiration, for which he apologies with God-almighty for respecting them more than Him. He always starts planning for something bigger, unique and interesting for future- and Cycling 2000 kms covering Peninsula of Malaysia was his yet another BIG FEAT! Team Mangalorean congratulates Shameem for successfully completing this Malaysia cycling adventure, and also wishes him all success in his future cycling ventures.
