New Delhi, Sep 24 (IANS) Mizoram’s Government Chawngfiang Middle School lifted the 56th Subroto Cup Sub-Junior (Under-14) football trophy, beating Esteqalal School from Afghanistan 3-2 in a keenly contested final at the Ambedkar Stadium here today.
Norbert Lalfakawma scored the match winning goal with a left-footed shot in the seventh minute of the extra time after the match was deadlocked 2-2 at the end of regulation time.
Chunnfa Hamar scored once on either side of the break to put the Mizoram team 2-0 ahead but the Afghan team fought back through Rasheed’s brace, the second of his goals coming via a penalty.
The winning team got Rs.2.5 lakh for their efforts while the runners-up received Rs.1.25 lakh.
