MLA Jain warns PD During National Highway Road Widening Meeting
Mangaluru: A meeting regarding the road widening of the Mangaluru-Moodbidri-Karkala National Highway 169 (NH 13) was held at the DC office here, on July 16.
The road widening project from Mangaluru to Sanoor (Karkala) was discussed with all stakeholders. Under the project, 47 km of road will be widened. The road will be widened to a width of 45 meters from Mangaluru to Moodbidri, and to a width of 30 meters from Sanoor to Padumarnadu.
Expressing concern over the inconsistency in the markings for the road widening, principal of Rosa Mistika said, “Last October, we noticed the yellow lines inside our playground. Without our knowledge, the NH officials had marked our ground. We have 2000 students studying in 5 schools and 2 formation houses exist inside the premises. The officials had marked 30 meters inside our compound and have measured the width from the edge of the road rather than the center. Let the concerned authorities measure from the center of the existing road instead of measuring from the edge and maintain uniformity in the road widening.”
When the Moodbidri road widening issue arose, Abhaychandra Jain warned the NH Project Director Prashanth not to play politics. “If the NH authorities play politics in widening the road, I will not spare them,” he warned.
Later, district minister in-charge Ramanath Rai said that the NH authorities should work on the project without compromising on quality. He also said that uniformity should be maintained while measuring the road and measurements should be made from the center of the existing road.
Special Land Acquisition Officer (SLAO) Gayathri Nayak said that under the project, 448.80 acres of land would be acquired out of which 307.28 acres is private land and 141.52 acres is government land. She also said that the 3A notification (power to acquire land) had been issued on 20 May 2016. Now 353 applicants have raised objections.
Nayak also said that in connection with the road widening from Mangaluru-Moodbidri, applicants have objected the widening of the road to 45 meters and requested that the width be 30 meters. According to the road widening plan, one portion of Sacred Hearts School building in Padau and one part of Rosa Mistica in Mullor will be acquired. Likewise in Badaga, Yedapadav, Thodar, mosque land will also be acquired.
As per the 3A notification for the project, 239 houses (RCC), 336 tiled houses, 246 school and buildings, 8 religious structures, 18 others, 410 compound walls, 29 wells and 2 schools will be demolished.
DC A B Ibrahim urged the stakeholders to support the development of the district. “We should all co-operate for the development of the district,” he added.
