MLA Lobo performs Guddali Puja for Development of Bairady Pond

Mangaluru: The Guddali Puja for the development work of Bairady pond was held at Padil here on May 16.

The programme began with an invocation. Corporator Prakash welcomed the gathering. MLA J R Lobo performed the Guddali Puja along with other dignitaries.

Speaking on the occasion MLA Lobo said, “I congratulate the committee members for their efforts to develop the Bairady pond. Two years ago, the locals in Padil invited me during the cleaning programme of the Bairady pond. I was shocked to see the enthusiasm of the locals in cleaning the pond. Later, members of the committee approached me and requested to sanction funds to develop the pond. Accordingly, a committee was formed to carry out the development work of the pond. We held several meetings and discussions to collect funds for the development work of the pond. Finally, I thought of approaching the minor irrigation department and the MUDA chairman”.

Lobo further said, “When I met the MUDA chairman and commissioner they wholeheartedly rendered their support to develop the pond. The MUDA has sanctioned Rs 2.5 crore and the minor irrigation department sanctioned Rs 79 lakhs for the retaining wall. I must thank the minor irrigation department, MUDA chairman and the commissioner for their timely support to carry out the development work of the Bairady pond”.

Lobo also said, “When we do some work we should have a financial closure for it. For the development of the pond, 3.37 crores will be spent. The tender process which is on will be completed within a month or two and the work will begin. A Jogging track, garden, swimming pool for children and boating facilities will be made. Once the pond is developed the entire area will develop. During the development work, some of the nearby land which has been encroached will be marked and used for the development work. Local should co-operate in the development of the area. Once the pond is cleaned it should be maintained well. If anyone found dumping waste of misusing the pond, action will be taken against them.”

MUDA Chairman Suresh Ballal also spoke on the occasion. MUDA Commissioner Srikanth, Deputy Mayor Rajaneesh Kapikad, Corporators Sabitha Misquith and Asha D’Silva, Sashikala, Minor Irrigation officer S Krishna and others were also present.

I truly commend Lobo for securing funds to develop the pond area. While ‘guddali pooja’ and ‘udghatana samaarambha’ are important, I also request him to spend at least a few hours every week participating and encouraging ‘swachcha mangaluru’ volunteers. It will send a very positive message to many more.
