MLA Sunil Kumar Inaugurates Novena for Annual Feast of Attur Basilica
Karkala: The nine-day novena services for the preparation of the Annual Feast of St Lawrence Minor Basilica Attur Karkala began on Sunday, January 20.
The Novena service was inaugurated by Karkala MLA Sunil Kumar by lighting the lamp and extending all support for the feast.
A large number of devotees of St Lawrence participated in the celebration of the Eucharist as well as the Novena.
Former MLA Gopal Bhandary, Fr George D’Souza, Rector of the Minor Basilica, Fr Jancil Alva, assistant priest, John D’Silva-Vice President of the Pastoral Parish Council (PPC), Leena D’Silva-Secretary of PPC, Richard Pinto-Convener of the 18 commissions, Santhosh D’Silva, ZP member Reshma Shetty, TP member Harishchandra, and others were present.
The annual feast of St Lawrence Minor Basilica will be celebrated from January 27 to 31. The celebrations will begin on Sunday, January 27 with the Confraternity Sunday Holy Eucharist at 7:30 am which will culminate with the Eucharistic procession.
The feast will commence on Sunday, the 27th, at 7:30 a.m. with the Holy Mass of Confraternity. On that day there will be special Masses for the children at 3:00 and 5:00 p.m. On Monday, the 28th, there will be a special Holy Mass for the sick at 10:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. The sick are requested to attend the special Mass.
About 35 Masses in Konkani and 12 Masses in Kannada will be offered on the days of the feast. The Archbishop of Bengaluru, the Bishops of Gulbarga, Mangaluru and Udupi will offer Masses during the festival.
