M’luru Marathi Mandal to Celebrate Silver Jubilee
Mangaluru: Addressing the media persons during a press meet held at Mangalore Press Club, Suman Chinchalkar-the Vice President of Mangaluru Marathi Mandal said, ” A small journey of Mangalore Marathi Mandal was formed on 2nd Oct, 1991, with the objective of bringing together Marathi speaking and Marathi language loving people and to provide a common platform with the intention of preserving and sustaining Marathi culture, language among Marathi families in Mangaluru.
We members come together with the aim to celebrate our festivals and to teach our children our traditions and customs. Many of our families have come to Mangaluru due to their jobs or on flourishing their business concerns. Some of us have developed passion and love with Mangaluru and whole heartedly set down our roots here permanently. Mangalore Marathi Mandal has been turned into a home to those of us away from their own homes. We are grateful to the people of Mangaluru who provided all the facilities and opportunities for our growth.”
Prasad P Kshirsagar- President of the Mandal said, ” We want to preserve and to sustain our tradition and culture by celebrating festivals like Sankranti, Holi, Vasantotsav, Rakshabandhan, Kojagiri and Annual Day as scheduled all through the year. The Mandal had undertaken some social initiatives to mark it’s silver jubilee year.. Donation of uniforms and chairs to UBMC school. Sports equipment and books gifted to Snehasadan, Gurupur, a facility for children afflicted by AIDS. A crafts workshop and drawing competition conducted for students of SDM mangaljyoti integrated school. Special sports equipment donated to the Catherine and Roman Lobo school for blind; 25 tree saplings were distributed to Mandal members as a symbol of continued growth. There are nearly 90 Marathi families living in Mangaluru, exclusive of students and working people of Marathi origin”
“On the occasion of Silver Jubilee, on 2nd October, 2016, the Mandal has planned to felicitate the founder members who sowed the seeds and nurtured the Mandal with dedication. The function will be held at Lions Seva Mandir- Mallikatte from 4pm onwards. The chief guest for the occasion will be Dilip T Shripad -Asst. Gen. Manager, Corporation Bank-Mangaluru, and guests of honor are M N Pai- GM- Achal Industries-Mangaluru, and Bhushan G Borase IPS-Superintendent of Police, DK Dist. Apart from wide variety of cultural programme, special attraction will be a play “Varhad Nighalaya Landanla” by Sri Madhav Kunte Belgaum.” added Nivedita Mirajkar, the Secretary of the Mandal.
