Portland, Nov 12 (IANS) Double Olympic champion middle distance runner Mo Farah in all probability will miss the World Indoor Championships and instead focus on how to defend his titles next year at the Rio Games.
The Briton said that the Glasgow Indoor Grand Prix at the Emirates Arena on February 20, in which he will race in 3,000 metres, is likely to be his only indoor race of 2016. The World Indoors will be held here from March 17 to 20.
“(The year) 2016 is another massive year for me and the Glasgow Indoor Grand Prix will be a key part of that. The 3,000m in Glasgow is likely to be my only indoor race of 2016 and I want to make it a good one,” Farah was quoted as saying by The Guardian on Thursday.
“It will give a good indication of how my training is going and will hopefully set me up for a successful outdoor season.”
Farah has not competed in a World or European championship since Glasgow 2012 because of an injury but is presently training under coach Alberto Salazar in Oregon. In Olympics, he will try and defend his 5,000m and 10,000m crowns.
The five-time World Champion, who will open 2016 in Scotland by racing at the Great Edinburgh International Cross-Country on January 9, added: “I haven’t competed in Glasgow since 2012 and it will be great to be back. The Scottish crowd love athletics and I’m sure they will give great support to the athletes.”
