Modi Govt Neglected Fishermen Community – P C Vishnunath AICC Secretary
Udupi: The All India Fishermen Congress Committee (AIFCC) held its third National Executive Committee Meeting at Karthik Estate Ambalpadi, Udupi here on July 18.
P C Vishnunath, secretary of All India Congress Committee (AICC) inaugurated the meeting by lighting the lamp.
In his message PC Vishnunath said, “The Congress party under the leadership of national president Rahul Gandhi has always been fighting for the rights of the marginalised, including fishermen, farmers and tribals who are suffering on account of the “anti-people” policies of the Narendra Modi government. Congress thinks that the best way to take the country forward is by empowering the common man. But the NDA has a completely different viewpoint. They think the country can progress by weakening the vast majority of the common people.”
“Eyeing to retain power in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, national president Rahul Gandhi has instructed the All India Fishermen Congress Committee to draft a separate national fishermen Manifesto. All the issues concerning fishermen of all the States would be discussed and later included in the Congress’ manifesto for the Lok Sabha elections”, he said.
The Udupi district Congress president Janardhan Tonse in his message said, “The fishermen community is a very hard working community. The Modi led BJP government is giving a deaf ear to the demands of the fishermen and allied workers involved in fishing and related work in the sea, backwaters, rivers, ponds, dams and reservoirs in various states in the country. He demanded a separate fisheries ministry under an independent minister under the central government to ensure the overall socio-economic development of fishermen communities in the country”.
AICC member Amrith Shenoy in his message said, “The coastal district is always known for delicious fish cuisine. Today the executive members from all over India have gathered here to discuss and form a separate national fishermen Manifesto. The Union government has failed to take the responsibility to give protection and safety to the life and wealth of traditional fishermen who risk their lives for the sake of economy and nutritional food habits of the nation”, he said.
National chairman of All India Fishermen Congress TN Prathapan presided over the meeting. AIFCC working president U.R. Sabhapathi, District Congress vice president Muniyal Uday Shetty, AIFCC general secretary Peeru Saheb, Secretary Kiran Kumar Udyavar, Udupi district Fishermen Congress president Manoj Karkera and others were present.
