Modi Launching GST at Midnight is Political Gimmick – U T Khader
Mangaluru: “From the past three years the Union Government has not done anything for the people of the country. The poor and the middle-class have not benefited from the Union government. Even the farmers are suffering. The GST amended by the Union Government is a political gimmick. Prime Minister should clarify to the people of this country about the benefits the common man gets from the GST. The GST was launched at midnight at the Parliament’s Central Hall, why did he launch the GST at Midnight? This is to fool the common man because from past three years Modi did not implement any pro-people schemes”, said the Minister for Food and Civil Supplies U T Khader in a press meet held at the Circuit House here on July 2.
Addressing the mediapersons U T Khader said, “The people of this country should ask the Prime Minister the reason for launching the GST at Midnight. The UPA government has launched the Right to Information Act, Right to Education Act, Right to Food Act and NREGA (National Rural Employment Guarantee Act). The Historic Economic Reforms happened in 1991 when Man Mohan Singh brought the reforms. For GST the government spent a lot of money for publicity and launched GST with “One Nation, One Tax”. But the tax is not the same all over the country. When UPA thought of launching GST in 2006, the same BJP protested and now after the BJP came to power Modi launched the GST and the Congress has supported it since it is progressive.”
U T Khader also said, “When UPA government had launched any scheme, it was only after thinking of the betterment of the people of the country. But BJP is collecting tax from the people and launching GST at midnight. The GST has increased the burden on the poor people. When the new government comes they will change the taxation policy. BJP is busy in publicity and not thinking of the common people”, said Khader.
Mohammed Monu, Jabbar Boliyar, Srinivas Shetty, U B Saleem and others were also present.

GST rollout will prove to be one of the defining moments in India’s transition into a transparent world class economy. One country one tax is something which should have happened 20, 30, 40 years ago. I know it’s unlikely to be perfect on Day One. But all criticism must be rational… Read more »
