Modi neglected minorities and failed to fulfill promises -Ivan D’Souza

Udupi: “The BJP government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Centre has miserably failed to deliver on the promises made ahead of the 2014 general election,” said Ivan D’Souza, the Parliamentary Secretary of the Chief Minister in a press meet held at the District Congress Bhavan here, on April 6.

Addressing the mediapersons, Ivan said, “Modi had promised to deliver on various issues concerning the nation during the 2014 election campaign, but he has aggravated the problems to such an extent that will take decades to solve. People have now made it a point to give a befitting reply to Modi for his failures and lies in the Lok Sabha polls. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had failed on his promise to bring back black money to the country in 100 days, while the Goods and Service Tax was severely impacting small business owners and merchant.”

Ivan further said, “When Siddaramaiah was the chief minister of Karnataka, his government had fulfilled all the 165 promises made by the party in its manifesto. In 2014 Lok Sabha Polls, Karnataka state elected 17 BJP MPs to the Parliament but they have failed to actively represent the development issues of the state. In the last 5 years, the development from BJP MPs for Karnataka has been zero.”

“After Modi came to power, minorities are being ignored by the Union government, even as they live in fear and with no attention being paid to their problems. The previous Siddaramaiah government had implemented several programmes for the development of minorities. All those programmes have been continued in the coalition government as well. In this year’s budget, Rs 500 crore more funds have been granted compared to the previous budget. Rs 200 crore is reserved for Commission for the Christian community in the recent state budget announced by CM Kumaraswamy, which is the highest grant so far given to the community in the whole country,” he said.

Speaking about the Congress manifesto, Ivan said that the Congress’ manifesto was a vision document that aimed at the social and economic well being of the country. “The party will make use of all available mediums to reach out to people on giving ₹72,000 per year to poor families under the Nyuntam Aay Yojana (NYAY) and other schemes proposed by Rahul Gandhi.”

Commenting on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement that Rahul Gandhi has chosen Wayanad as there are more people from the minority community, Ivan said, “There is nothing wrong in the decision of AICC president Rahul Gandhi to contest from Wayanad in Kerala. Congress always worked for the development of minority community and the people of Wayanad will support Rahul Gandhi to win with a big margin.”

District Congress president Ashok Kumar Kodavoor, KPCC secretary M A Gafoor, NSUI district president Christen D’Almeida, Prashanth Jattanna, Bhaskar Rao Kidiyoor, Ismail Atradi, Dinesh Putran, Gulam Ahammed, Naveenchandra Shetty and others were present.
